The Boya BY-BM6040 is Boya’s cardioid shotgun microphone for camera mounting โ designed to sit in the hot shoe of a DSLR or mirrorless camera and capture forward-facing directional audio. Shotgun microphones have a hypercardioid or lobar polar pattern that focuses narrowly on the subject in front of the camera while rejecting sound from the sides and rear โ the acoustic opposite of omnidirectional lavalier microphones. For documentary interviews, news gathering, B-roll narration, and on-camera dialogue where the subject is directly in front of the camera, a camera-mounted shotgun provides cleaner, more natural-sounding audio than clip-on lavaliers.
